Amazon
When we think of the Amazon, the first image that usually comes to mind is an immense forest, one that, unfortunately, continues to shrink for many different reasons.
But that was not what I was thinking about when I created this artwork.
The Amazon rainforest covers approximately 6.7 million square kilometres. It is often called the lungs of our planet, but to me, it could just as easily be called its heart.
There is something about the Amazon that feels untouched by the artificiality of the world we have created. It exists according to its own rules — raw, instinctive, mysterious and extraordinarily beautiful.
It can be dangerous, of course, but it is a different kind of danger from the one we encounter in our everyday lives. There is no deception behind it, no hidden intention. Nature simply is what it is.
Amazonia feels almost like another planet, a place where many of the values, priorities and concerns that define our lives suddenly lose their meaning. Everything comes back to something much more fundamental: instinct, survival, balance and life itself.
As human beings, we often give enormous importance to things that ultimately mean very little, while overlooking what is truly essential.
Perhaps the Amazon reminds us of that.
So let us be human, and protect the heart of our planet.
